Personalized psychiatric evaluations to guide your care journey forward

At Hope House Psychiatry and Wellness, we provide a comprehensive intake and psychiatric assessment in West Chester, Ohio, during your first appointment, which includes a thorough psychiatric evaluation conducted by our experienced provider. These assessments typically last between 60 and 90 minutes. Based on the findings and appropriate diagnosis, an individualized, patient-centered treatment plan, whether it involves medication, therapy, or both—will be collaboratively discussed and developed. For pediatric patients, the treatment plan will be created in partnership with the patient, their parent and/or guardian, and the provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is involved in a psychiatric evaluation?
A psychiatric evaluation includes a comprehensive assessment of your mental, emotional, and behavioral health. It typically involves a conversation about symptoms, medical history, family history, and possibly questionnaires. The goal is to understand your needs and determine the best course of treatment.
How long does a psychiatric assessment take?
A typical psychiatric assessment can take 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the complexity of your history and symptoms. Some evaluations may take longer or occur over multiple visits to ensure all aspects of your mental health are thoroughly addressed.
What’s the difference between a psychiatric evaluation and a therapy session?
A psychiatric evaluation is more diagnostic and focused on understanding your overall mental health to recommend treatment. A therapy session is focused on ongoing support and emotional processing. Evaluations may lead to medication, referrals, or therapy depending on the findings.
Why would someone need a psychiatric assessment?
People seek assessments for many reasons such as new or worsening mental health symptoms, difficulty functioning, or to get a diagnosis for insurance, school, or work accommodations. It’s a vital step in getting appropriate treatment and understanding what’s really going on.
Can my child or teen undergo a psychiatric evaluation?
Yes, parents or guardians can request an evaluation if a child or teen is showing signs of emotional distress, behavioral changes, or academic struggles. Early assessments can identify developmental, emotional, or psychological issues and help tailor effective support strategies.
